One prominent example of this authority is the story of Prophet Ibrahim&rsquo;s (as) resurrection of four birds, as mentioned in verse 260 of Surah Baqarah, where Ibrahim (as) requests God to demonstrate how the dead are brought back to life. Interpretations by exegetes regarding the motivation behind this request vary. Some explanations arise from a close examination of the Quranic text, including morphological and syntactical considerations, while others derive from an analysis of the narrations related to the verse. By comparing and evaluating these views, this study concludes that the interpretation most consistent with the Quranic context and the station of Prophet Ibrahim (as) is that his request was motivated by a desire for inner certainty about his selection as Khalīlullāh (the Beloved of God) in his role as God&rsquo;s vicegerent.
